SSL, Webhosting, and whatnot

[ad_1]

I’m a user of the nets, and have a webpage of my own. By no means do I consider myself a savvy web developer… or even a developer for that matter.

I am looking for a 3rd party SSL to put on my site. I purchased one through my webhost then they were not able to add it to my registry. I was not happy with my feelings of them after and am in the process of finding a new webhost.

On a separate SSL thread here people recommended using [Cloudflare]). My sister, a web designer, recommended [A2]). But then I started going down the rabbit hole of information and found that a lot of these companies are resellers using Tucows/Enom.

So, 2 questions:

1. Why would I want to use Cloudflare or A2 if I can just buy from Enom?
2. What is WordPress Hosting? I use wordpress backend, is that the same as wordpress hosting?

Thanks for your help,

BullKitty

  1. The rabbit hole of hosting is deep. I guess like cars you can learn A LOT to DIY maybe or you can pay a good bit for a service

    1. CloudFlare has it’s own domain level features that rock but aren’t needed. You could go even further down the rabbit hole and host on AWS, or…
    2. WordPress [Hosting.com]) is the commercial entity of [WordPress.org]) (the free open source software you already use). Basically they sell their own software on the side for people who don’t want to do it all manually.

I don’t use it because I do this for a living but [Wordpress.com]) is an awesome way to get a site up for those who don’t want to. There are some things to look into like extension compatibility, domain forwarding, SSL etc. but I think they make it all pretty user friendly.

Their app is pretty cool too.
