Staging environment on subdomain vs. folder on primary domain?

[ad_1]

I typically put lower environments on a subdomain or even different domain, but what about within a folder on the primary domain?

Any major pros or cons? I’d imagine a little more separation than a folder could be good, but with the right handling and resource allocation, I’d wonder if it actually makes a real difference.

Thoughts? Thanks!

  1. sub domain. different server depending on your hosting situation. allows for testing, without worrying of breaking whole server, db, etc. better backups, etc.
