Staging envirronement

Hello All!

I’m looking to re-work some website entirely, changing almost everything, from theme to plug-in.

I’d like to set up an “off line staging envirroment”, then transfer the new webstite onto the domain.

What’s the best practice? I’ve looked online, but either I’m dumb or I’m not quite getting what I am fetting wrong
