Staging sites – can these be hidden?

[ad_1]

So I have a domain with Hostinger and my website is working nicely.

I went through the process to set up a staging site (create subdomain, create new folder copying over all files from parent site, create new database and update wp-config with that info in the new folder).

I logged into the staging.domain.com/wp-admin and it was great, everything working as expected. Brilliant.

But it’s live, and I thought the idea was that a staging site isn’t live online but can be used to preview changes in a as-live website.

Did I just understand it wrong and it’s supposed to be live? I thought about password protecting it (not that anybody even visits my site anyway tbh) but that isn’t an option on a Subdomain with Hostinger as far as I see.

Any thoughts on this?

I’m at the start of the website creation journey but I know this is an important thing to master as it’s important to show future clients any changes to their sites.

Cheers.
