Strange WordPress Errors

Hi

When saving a post or page in WP, I press the save button and (in the bottom left) the notification messages invariably go something like this…

  • 'Saving CSS'

  • 'CSS Saved'

  • 'Saving CSS'

  • 'CSS Saved' (this repeats 4 or 5 times again over about 20 secs) until eventually…

  • 'Post Updated' message appears (sometimes it does not even get this far)

Quite often my site goes down for a short time when this happens and resource usage spikes enormously.

How can I get to the bottom of what is causing this please? It is frustrating to say the least!

Many thanks.

  1. Just to add, I have tried to use query monitor but that does not seem to work on showing what is happening when you are saving posts.

  2. A plugin or theme might be interfering with the saving process. Try disabling your plugins one by one and switching to a default theme or you could be hitting your server’s memory limit, which could explain the resource spikes and site going down. The multiple “Saving CSS” messages could point to a database issue or corruption. Running a database optimization tool, like WP-Optimize, could help clean things up and fix any problems. You will probably want to check your server’s error logs to see if there’s anything more specific being recorded when this happens. This might give you more insight into what’s causing the high resource usage.

I hope some of this info helps, good luck!
