Strange WordPress issue: when I click “Update” in Editor, eventually, the button stops responding as “Updating…” and cannot be clicked

[ad_1]

I’ve been having this issue on a WordPress website being run on an AWS Lightsail server (Apache).

Two ways I notice the bug:

(1) I will be in the Page Editor, working on a page, where I will click “Update” after making a few iterations.

And once every 10 or 15 minutes, this “Updating…” request never completes, and the button is stuck as “Updating…”, and now I can’t save my changes.

(2) Sometimes, I won’t even click the “Update” button, I’ll just make some changes to one of the Blocks (ie. today I’ve been working with Row Layouts blocks from Kadence Blocks), for example, I’ll change the number of columns, or padding, or something like that.

And when I unfocus my cursor from the editor field (ie. changing a padding value), seems like maybe an automatic API call is being made to cache the changes (as part of the Page Revisions feature in WordPress).

And when this call is being made, the “Update” button has now become disabled, until the request completes.

But the request never completes, so the “Update” button is stuck in disabled mode.

And again, now I can’t save my changes.

What is worse…

(1) Now when I try to refresh the tab, the browser fails to load my website altogether, it is just “Refreshing…” non-stop and never completes the request.

(2) If I open a new tab, and go to my WordPress website address, the page never loads (it is also stuck loading forever…)

BUT,

If I open another browser, ie. I was working in Edge and now I open Chrome, when I go to my website in the new browser, it opens without issue.

But again, if I now login and work on my website in Chrome, after a while, the “Update” button becomes stuck, and now Chrome will refuse to open my website.

And…

The only way to get ie. Edge or Chrome to get “unstuck” and load the website, is either to close the browser completely (as well as all my other tabs, really annoying and disruptive).

OR, I disconnect my WiFi, refresh the page while WiFi is disconnected so that the browser shows “You’re offline, cannot load the page”, reconnect WiFi, and then refresh again. Only now, will I be able to “Update” and make request to the WordPress website again.

So it looks like somehow, the browser develops a network issue or caching issue related to WordPress, and after 10-15 minutes of working on my website, it stops responding.

Does anyone have an idea of WTF could be happening? It’s extremely disruptive. And I don’t see this happening on non-WordPress websites.
