I wanted to hear your guys opinion, I'm going to translate a website and I'm not sure if I should create a subdomain or buy a new domain. FX I have a home.com site, should I use a subdomain fr.home.com or buy the home.fr domain?

Subdomain or subfolder are the norm. Using a unique domain name may have negative SEO implications as different domains are treated as unique sites.
You don’t need a separate domain or subdomain, it would be counted as a different site and could negatively impact SEO. You can simply use WPML to translate your website without need new domain or subdomain.
