Template Noob… Help?

[ad_1]

Hi! I am making a website using a free theme called Zeever. When I go into the page editor, the template I have selected is not showing in the main editing panel, and any changes I make or add to that main editing box (adding text, images, etc) do not show up on the live page–only the theme template I select in the side panel does. If I want to make changes, I have to alter the template, and then it works great.

But this is causing a couple of problems. First, my SEO scan is saying my page is empty, even though the template is super full and great. If you go to the url, there is stuff there. I can copy and paste the same text into the editor, especially since it doesn’t show up on the live site, but I don’t know if that’s considered a black hat tactic and I don’t want to get in trouble there.

The second problem it’s causing is I have to duplicate my templates for every single page on my website. This seems ridiculous and like I’m definitely doing something wrong.

Incidentally, the blog template from the theme is working great. It’s just everything else. (Services, front page, etc.)

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks everyone!

  1. Who knows… but Zeever is a blocks/FSE theme.

The right way is to create a template for SINGLE (in appearance->editor)

In that template you can have NOTHING except a POST CONTENT block. (you can have more if you want, but MUST have a CONTENT block).

It sounds like you don’t have a post content block… so… inevitably… it doesn’t show the post content when you visit the page.

Move everything from the template to your page… then add the content block. That’s how the templates work… via DISPLAY where (e.g. Front Page / archive page etc.) and WHAT (e.g. a menu in the header, CONTENT in a page template etc.)
