The WordPress.com Creator Plan at $25 sounds like a good deal- Why the hate?

[ad_1]

I’ve read a lot of folks discourage using WordPress.com but the Creator plan at $25 sounds pretty decent for a managed WordPress plan along with all the Jetpack extras added.

What are some of the issues using WordPress.com for hosting? Is it slow? Or is there downtime?

  1. Before anybody chimes in with “but you can’t use your own plugins or themes”, with the creator plan you can. Essentially, you’re getting a fully hosted, managed version of WordPress. And hosting on [WordPress.com](https://WordPress.com) is pretty fast too. If the price is right, go for it. At worst, you come cancel and move elsewhere, as you can export your site to any other WordPress host.

WordPress.com annual, two-year, and three-year plans are refundable within 14 days of purchase and themonthly plans are refundable within 7 days.

Note: I work for the parent company, but not [WordPress.com](https://WordPress.com) itself. Feel free to ignore my advice if you think it’s biased as a result. I host my own sites on [WordPress.com](https://WordPres.com) and Pressable.

  2. Artificial roadblocks to force you to upgrade. You get everything (sometimes minus Jetpack) in the creator plan and actual control over your website by going with WordPress.org for considerably cheaper with more freedom.

  3. because you do not have full control of your hosting , you can’t upload any plugin(s) and theme(s) you want. There are restrictions and yes that is important. No matter what u/dartiss says. If you pay for hosting, they shouldn’t limit what you upload.

Obviously, unless it is illegal in some way.

  4. This Reddit is specifically for WordPress.org discussions and support. As a result, most readers and posters view this platform with favor. I am among them.

For some the creator plan may be exactly what you need and will meet all your requirements. Most find some of the ways WordPress.com place artificial limitations on the user and bug them about upgrades to be very annoying.

I host with a decent provider, manage my whole environment since I have a virtual server. I can have as many domains and WordPress sites as my resources will support for $5 per month.

So it is a combination of reasons for the “hate”. In the end there is an embarrassment of riches and folks need to use what works for them.

  5. For $25 you can get the cloud hosting from Hostinger, they have a CDN, Cache engine (Litespeed), daily backups, emails, SSH & FTP, Subdomains, Phpmyadmin, and great CS

  6. I recently developed a site for a client with creator plan, as they really wanted this for some unclear reason. Found out that Wp.com support sucks. Live chat is never available. After a week I’m still waiting on a response on some security issues. With other hosting I always get a quick reply.
