The WordPress Plugins licensing structure, is highly broken

[ad_1]

None and not a single Plugin that I have used in the last 5 years or so, accommodates licenses for staging sites, I don’t think it is fair, for plugin makers in WordPress to charge you for staging sites, You want a staging site you need to buy a license and most plugins I use, the licensing is either 1,3,5,10 sites.
Honestly, this is a problem and a broken system.
WordPress needs to address this issue somehow by creating some sort of mechanism where we are allowed 1 staging site that does not count against our License Count.
I mean the all Preach best practices how it is crucial to have a staging site, but you end up paying for double or triple the licenses you need.
For me it is an issue because without mentioning names, some of these plugins are 500 and 400 dollars for additional licenses.
Why can’t they come up with a system or some way of allowing us to allocate a staging site and it doesn’t count against your license count.

Am I being unreasonable ? I am surprised I never see anyone talking about this flaw in WordPress.

WordPress doesn’t sell anything. There is no license system, because WordPress doesn’t have any licenses.

WordPress is free software. All the plugins that are hosted on [wordpress.org]) are free software. All the themes hosted there are free software. You cannot buy anything from WordPress, except for the hats and shirts and things with the logo on the swag store.

So when you’re buying something, code especially, then you are buying it from somebody else directly. WordPress is not involved in your purchase or transaction or deal with a third party vendor.

  2. I don’t understand your complaint. Are you talking about testing paid plugins on a staging site? That’s what free versions are for. Or, are you talking about using plugins you paid for on a staging site? You can already do that very easily.

If you’re talking about [Wordpress.com]), then good luck, you’ve chosen the wrong product and should switch to WordPress.org.

  3. Most plugin authors will grant you an extra allowance for a staging site if you contact their support team. I’m 5 for 5 on these requests.
