I am making a website for movie reviews. The design I want is simple, but this is the first time I’ve used the WordPress app and I cannot figure out how to alter the theme to do what I want it to.
Each post on my site will have a title, a single image at the top, then text. What I want is for each new post to display on the home page as the title, the image, and the first block or two of text, with the rest cut off by the “Read More” link.
I’ve switched between a few themes that are close, but they all have similar issues:
* The “featured image” uploaded to each post is displayed on the home page much too large, stretched to take up the column instead of at the image’s actual size.
* The text I’m posting has hard returns, but in the brief excerpt of text before the “Read More” link, the line breaks are not displayed and all the text just runs together.
* Some of the headings (H1, H2, etc.) do not change font when I change the font in the Styles function in the Editor.
I want to know where to find these kinds of settings and change them so I can specify what parts of each post are displayed on the home page and how they will be displayed. I have so far found the Editor in the app unintuitive, and these issues have proven difficult to Google.
