Unfortunately, I can’t tell you why you are seeing increased 404 activity. The requests are harmless so maybe someone or more likely a bot/crawler is trying to index your website and trying to find pages randomly. Maybe it’s an error where some crawler mixed up your domain with another. It could be any number of things.
