Total newb here. I want to build a simple personal photography portfolio website, displaying my photos (with the option to view them high res individually) and contact details. I’m feeling overwhelmed and lost about how to start.

Should I buy my domain first (reddit recommendations have pointed me towards Porkbun for the domain) and then host/develop/design with WordPress? Would you recommend wordpress .com or .org, or given my inexperience, something else? And are there any other vital things I should know about before I start?

Thank you!

  1. [Wordpress.com](http://Wordpress.com) will be simpler; .org will be potentially cheaper and more flexible, but there will be more to learn.

Here’s a simple photo portfolio site I did with the free version of Kadence theme, and their free block, and the Justified Image Grid plugin, with WordPress.org: https://jimnewberry.com.

  2. There is a plugin called Sunshine Photo Cart that does all this out of the box, plus more, and i think they’ll do the setup for a fee. I recommend using WordPress.org because you don’t want to be hampered by .com’s limitations, especially if this is your business.
