Transferring a Website

Does anyone know why transferring a site from Dream Host would effect my WordPress account? When I put in the transfer of the domain and the website, I lost access to my WordPress account. When I tried to go the site, it says they can't find an account with my email. Has anyone had that happen? It seems very odd.
