Transferring to a new domain

[ad_1]

I am helping a friend move her website to a new domain. Let’s say her name is Maria Garcia. She got started around 20 years ago and installed WordPress 1.0. She was updating as updates came around. She has thousands of posts over 20 years.

Most images on the posts will be mariagarcia.com/wp-content/uploads/filename.ext, her new website is mariahorvat.com. So any new image will be mariahorvat.com/wp-content/uploads/filename.ext

While the database and files is easy to transfer. However, how do you update the images on the posts? Imagine she has thousands of articles.

  1. Better search replace. Post and page content is stored in the DB, outside of hard coded pages/templates. Just do a bsr and you’ll be fine. Take a back up first.

And start using relative links going forward. src=”/wp-content/uploads/filename.jpg”

  2. Are you transferring manually?

Using a plugin should do this automatically, but if there is any issues with media then do a better search and replace
