trying to learn WordPress for nonprofit foundation

I am a co-founder to a non-profit who had help getting a wesite started. The person who started the site used wordpress to create it and has become too busy to help maintain the site. I am an administrator for the page and have gone in and created a new page. It took me a while, but I am happy with the outcome, now I need to get a tab on my home page along with the about us and the other tabs, can anyone help please?
