Hello, I just started learning how to create a website, and I found uploading product photos to be very slow.
Is this a common issue for everyone, whether using a computer or an app?
Or are there some tricks that I might not know about?
How was your experience in the beginning, and do you have any life hacks for speeding up the process? Thanks!
How many photos are we talking about? What size of each photo?
Usually it shouldn’t take much time if the image is optimized for web.
When you upload an image to WordPress it uploads the original and then also generates various image sizes (dependent on your theme and any plugins etc. used that set image sizes). This is generally why it appears to take so long as it’s doing more than just uploading your images – it resizes, crops and optimises them, generally speaking. To speed up the ‘processing’ time, you’ll need faster, more powerful hosting.
Your upload speed is low
When you say it’s slow, how many seconds are we talking about for a 1.7mb image?
If the images are quite large, such as those taken with professional cameras, it makes sense that the upload process would be slow. If that’s not the issue, check your upload speed with your ISP (internet service provider).
The vast majority of WP and web users whould never require photo and images assets over 500kb each (unless you’re a photographer, with the express need to display high-res images).
FTP and then drop all the images compressed to the current month’s uploads folder and then run the media sync plug-in to automatically ingest those files and create the different media sizes.
How many thumbnail sizes are being created? If you have a lot, it could be a contributor. You should compress/resize your images, but uploading a 7MB file shouldn’t take long regardless, unless your internet upload is slow.
