Use swipe as ‘previous’ and ‘next’ buttons?

Mobile screen size makes it difficult to fill the landing screen with content and still have room left over for prev / next buttons to get to the other posts. You basically have to stick them at the bottom (which means scrolling) or make weird UI choices. Scrolling is bad for portfolio sites where many users just want to look at the pictures and not bother reading.

I’m wondering if there’s a way to swipe right for next post and swipe left for previous post which I’ve just never seen anymore mention yet.
