You absolutely can use just the free plugin in this case and situation, since you only need to index and use on one individual site.
The features in the Pro add-on around Multisite are more for if you’re wanting to push the content from EACH site in the network, into a SINGLE index that can be searched from regardless of which site you’re currently viewing.
