WCAG 2.1 AA Compliant External Link Warnings

[ad_1]

Hi everyone,

What have you all found the best solution for meeting WCAG 2.1 AA compliance regarding external links?

I’m looking for behaviour along the lines of how these pearl jam forums do it:

If you click one of the links in the post, you’ll see a handoff warning the user before proceeding to the external site. I have seen a few solution plugins that use a JS modal or popup, but I’m not sure that counts as accessible, so I’d prefer to have it pushed to a full page like the behaviour seen above.

That being said, I’m interested in learning how you all do it and what may be the most straightforward course of action. Thanks for your time!

  1. Is this a requirement in WCAG? I have seen it advised (not mandatory) for new windows/tabs, but not for all third-party links.
