Hi, i’ve read countless threads on this as well as hosting options but still have doubts as everyone has different uses for them. Here is my specific case, any advice is welcome!
I started working on an idea a couple of months ago and built a website on Squarespace as a proof of concept. Its been evolving and working well and could possibly turn into a bigger business. I have quickly learned all the limitations but at the same time I have no knowledge of coding so it was a good place to start.
The website is a sort of real estate listing service (which I list) and I use a few web apps that are embedded as iframes in order to deliver certain features. These work fine for now but could eventually develop into something more custom. The most “advanced” part of the site has been memberships (which users pay to get access to additional features) and for that I have been using MemberSpace which can be integrated into any CMS from what I understand.
Its looking like I will continue to expand features on the site and I have a potential partnership which is a large corporation which could send traffic my way by means of their single-sign-on. Something I obviously won’t be able to handle on Squarespace and possibly not MemberSpace.
I think the time to make the switch to something more robust is now and I’d like to take a stab at it with the little knowledge I have gained through this process. I know I might be in over my head but at least I’d like to start on a CMS where if I have to hire someone in the future, they can work efficiently on what I chose.
From my initial research, here is what I’ve gathered from both options:
**WP**
Good: Less expensive, large amount of plug-ins, can edit code, used by most
Bad: More geared towards blogs?, requires a lot of maintenance, can be slow if not optimized correctly, need to go down the rabbit hole of hosting (which could be worse than this one)
**WF**
Good: Easier to work on with little coding experience, AWS hosting integrated
Bad: Limited in plug-ins, UI can be unresponsive, expensive compared to WP
Thanks in advance for any advice!
PS. Hiring someone is not an option at the moment.
