What am I missing with permalinks?

[ad_1]

Hi there,

Appreciate any help! I’ve been attempting to change a site structure on a wordpress theme.

**Currently, the setup is**
Category: /category/name-of-category
Article: /name-of-article

**I’m looking to update this so that the following is the setup**
Category: /news/name-of-category
Article: /news/name-of-category/name-of-article

**When I set this up as the below under the permalinks, it ‘works’ to an extent.**

Custom Structure: /news/%category%/%postname%/
Category base: .

**Issues**
To make this work, I can’t change the categories in the Posts —> Categories —> area of the wordpress backend to having the /name-of-category/ to be under /news/, instead it has to be standalone. Due to this, the /news/ isn’t showing in the link url on every article page (when displaying the category name). Yes i have this redirected already but SEO will punish for the redirect on every page!

The other issue encountered is via this format, i’m getting /news/author for all the author links now!

Any help or feedback is greatly appreciated in being able to setup this correctly!

  1. Custom structure: /news/%postname%

    Category base: news/category

And you should make a page with the slug “news” and put your blog page there.

Some variation of this will get you what you want. You might have to fiddle with the category base. If this doesn’t do it, let me know and I’ll test it out on my sandbox.
