What routines should be put in place to regularly check that the website displays well and works on smartphones?

Hello,

I develop websites with wordpress, I buy themes and I adapt these themes to my tastes/those of the customer, to the structure of the content I want, and to the functionalities I add.

I have two questions:

  • Do you have a particular way of deploying the website so that it's optimized for smartphones? Do you develop the website first on smartphone or first on desktop and then check that it displays well on smartphone?

  • Do you have an automated routine for regularly checking that the site displays well on mobile and that all functionalities are working ("uptime robot" type monitoring, scheduled email routines, functionality tests etc.)?

Don't hesitate to send me feedback on your experiences, or on the tools you use.
If you develop sites primarily on mobile, do you use a smartphone as a second screen?

Thanks

  1. Mobile-first design, and I almost never code something exclusively for desktops. When I do, I’m extremely deliberate as to not code stuff that is going to break and usually try and talk the clients out of it.

I sort of like when they demand designs with a bunch of desktop features, because it’s more dev hours _and_ a maintenance contract. I tell them what to expect, and charge them for every minute of maintenance.
