Hi Everyone,
I just started learning WordPress recently for the past 2 months, and Im seeing all the news and back and forth between Matt and WPEngine. I’ve been taking a course on WP and the instructor made us download the Local Software. I have researched the alternatives of running a local server on my machine, but I fear my machine doesn’t have the capacity for this.
So my question is, does anyone think that its going to be a concern to continue using the “Local” software to setup WP sites locally on my machine.
Nothing.
It’s third party software, completely beyond Automattic’s reach or interference.
Local will live for long.
Yes. Your computer will explode at the stroke of midnight on Halloween.
Come on, people. Nothing is going to happen. Localwp is a fine desktop app and literally nothing will happen with it. At all.
Why were people doing it local all along? They could break production
Just install WAMP (or MAMP if you’re on Mac) if you’re worried about LocalWP. It’s all I’ve ever used for local development.
Nothing .
My Preference will be:
Docker + MySQL + WordPress 🔥
(+Portainer -for visually managing docker containers if you are using Linux)
My concern would be whether WPE will keep dedicating the same amount of resources to the LocalWP maintenance and support. I assume that they have been heavily impacted by this whole situation and might cut some budget/time from the specific project.
Don’t let the potty mouth of a child dictate who you should host with 🙂 WPEngine is great, I will continue to use it regardless to what Matt says. Nothing will happen unless he’s willing to destroy what he’s created and even if he does code is open sourced, it can be forked and taken over which wouldn’t look good for Matt.
All Matt can do is air his grievance but he will have to face legal battles with a bigger cash flow vc compared to his vc; SilverLake/WPEngine vs Audrey Capital/Automattic/Wordpress.
