We are thinking to build our own e-commerce website, transitioning from Prestashop 1.6 to WordPress/Woo.
Please guide us what should be aware of, suggest what to use, so that we don’t have to waste time on evaluating plugins, hosting, etc.
We focus on creating professional hand made albums for our customers, and have different styles and sizes. But we are going to add new products in the future.
In the middle of the buying journey there will be an api integrated that makes it possible to customers to create their own layout from an online editor, and then the customers will navigate to checkout.
1. Beforehand, the customer will be able to choose the cover style, size of album, and a few other options.
So what plugin has the most options and works smoothly?
2. Please suggest us a them that is customizable and works best for our niche of e-commerce?
3. We currently use Godaddy, and they are awfully expensive. We pay 80 pounds for SSL. Is Hostinger better? Which one is the fastest and provides the best quality?
We have no more than 10k customers monthly.
4. SEO is probably the most crucial part. We are currently rating “OK” online, and we’d like to improve that by a lot.
In the end, is it really worth building the website ourselves, or should we hire a professional?
I’ve built websites in the past, being an IT engineer , but most of the time I am in the production line and don’t really know if I will have the time and nerves to do it again
Any suggestion and advice is very welcomed.
Thanks in advance.

1. For any e-commerce store the WooCommerce plugin is always the top options. It is the most straightforward and simplest way to create an e-commerce site on WordPress and, if there are additional things you need, they has a ton of addons that you can add to make your store fully customized.
2. Theme is more about your preference, take a look at what Astra or Themeforest has as they are some of the most recommend.
3. Do not use GoDaddy, they charge way too much amongst a ton of other problems. I think Hostinger is good but also check out BlueHost as that is another great option.
4. SEO really depends on you are how you setup the site. Keyword, market, site speeds, amongst a number of other things contribute to this. Theres also plenty of tools online to be able to check your SEO scores.
Building this site yourself, considering your background, is definitely doable but could be a hassle managing and maintaining it due to the traffic and if you’re inexperienced with WordPress. Looking into an expert to run your site would certainly help and can give you a ton of time to focus on other aspects. If you have other questions let me know.
>*In the end, is it really worth building the website ourselves, or should we hire a professional?*
Based on your line of questioning, you need to hire a professional. I know you said you were an “IT engineer”, but unless you have sufficient ***web*** experience, IT experience won’t help.
