Hello! I am having big issues with my website right now. It is a very long story, but I am apparently using way more resources than I should be, according to my site hosting provider, BigScoots. They claim that I have 1 CPU on my plan and I need more, in fact they said at *least* 4x more CPU. They sent me screenshots showing my WP dashboard and “13 different processes and requests all fighting for CPU and memory” and stated that there is nothing they can do about it. I get 503 errors left and right, load times are crazy long, and just general errors all over. BS now wants want me to switch to their WPO plan which is 4x more $$ per year than my current plan. They also mentioned that I could instead try to optimize my site at the start of our message thread, though!
They said to optimize my site will be extremely hard for me, as I need to have a lot of knowledge that I do not have, haha (my words, not theirs). I have a small site with only \~\~4k visitors per month. I make almost no money at all from it. I cannot afford to pay 400 bucks every year for this site… but BS is not explaining things well or helping me out *at all* and my brain is absolutely fried. I have such a tight budget, but **at the expense of my sanity and well-being, I would just rather hire someone to look into this for me and either just speed things up, or perhaps find the issue(s) causing my small site to use so many resources.**
Things I have done / am doing to help: I am working on getting rid of Elementor (I only use it on my homepage and perhaps one other page or so) and I am beginning to learn that my theme (a child theme of Genesis that I currently love so dearly – from 17th Avenue) may be causing some issues too. I have downloaded LiteSpeed Cache according to the rec from BS and I have checked my plugins one by one. I even downloaded Query Monitor. I see that my recent additions of WooCommerce and other WC plugins has clearly slowed my site a bit, but I have been having these issues for a month or two (long before I downloaded WC just this past Thursday). I have done everything I can and my brain is *mush* right now.
Does anyone know of a good person to hire that is not going to drive me into a (financial and literal) depression? Or a site / org / whatever to go to to find someone like this? **Or is this just a lost cause and I have to either give up my site or fork over 400 bucks per year for a plan upgrade?**
Thank you!

A lot of it could be hosting. Keep in mind any plugin you add optimizes on the same hosting… So often this doesn’t make much difference.. look at a decent CDN instead.
We offer a CDN with our business hosting plans for this specific reason…
You don’t need to upgrade, you probably need to move from “BigScoots” though.
Consider WPX.net. Honestly though any decent shared host should be fine – 4k/month is not that much traffic. Greengeeks, Hostinger, Dreamhost – any basic host should be able to handle that.
Sounds like ‘BigScoots’ is putting too much onto their servers. I had that happen before with bad shared services too.
i’m not sure on recommendations but how competent are you with WordPress. Do you have a sandbox site that you can play with without making changes to production?
I would recommend starting with [PageInsights]) by Google and look at the recommendations then identify plugins to resolve those issues. Perhaps you would benefit with a caching plugin?
i would eliminate Elementor if it’s only being used for the homepage. Also, if you can disable all plugins and enable each one 1 by 1 to see if there’s perhaps a plug-in that’s causing your memory issues?
I think what they said is valid. Also, troubleshooting performance issues is not straightforward, so I understand why they can’t say more than just “upgrade”. However, I’m sure that an upgrade is not the only solution, neither changing the host would solve your problem 100%. There is something wrong with the website, changing host or adding more plugins will not solve it. Actually, adding more plugins might make it even worst.

If you could share a list of the plugins you are using and the screenshot they shared with you, we might be able to give you some better suggestions.
To save a dime you could setup copy of your site locally for free.
Then it is time to play with it a little:
* disable plugins one by one and see what happens.
* activate the default twentytwentythree theme and see if this change anything.
This way you will find out which one is using most of your server resources.
Once found disable it and remove it.
Hope this info helps.
Happy hunt!
Use googles free tier hosting @ Google cloud.
Edit and host a bitnami WordPress package.
What’s your website URL? I can take a look at it and do a general assessment and give you few tips and maybe help you out a bit. No charge 🙂
Deactivate the Query monitor plugin it will slow down ur site and increase the resource consumption by 3 times.
I don’t know this hosting company, but from what you said I hate them. I pay 70€ per year, it gives me about 6 subdomains and 10gb of space. I can help you for free because fuck those guys
And also, if you ever need/want anything a little more advanced, or go fully custom for your website, I’d be available. But for optimization, send me a message I’ll give you some advice!
Hello you should check out http://www.savloffstrategies.com I use them for boosting my site speed/load time, and also over all search engine rankings and optimization might be a good option and they only charge me $500 but if I need any updates to the website or anything they manage it for me.
