I want to build a directory of “people” in a specific profession. I want users to be able to find someone in this profession in their local area by entering their zip code or city.
I would like to offer a combination of free listings and paid listings, along with the ability to automatically bill/charge for annual renewals.
I’m not sure yet if I’ll be using Beaver Builder or Bricks or Breakdance to create the website, but since Bricks and Breakdance don’t really allow the use of external themes I would need a directory plugin that works without requiring one of their own themes.
With this in mind, which wordpress directory plugin would you suggest I use?

The answer is simple, it depends!
How many listings do you think you will have and how many custom fields?
I personally wouldn’t use a plugin for this, but if you can’t custom code or don’t have a developer helping you out I would use:
1) WP Job Manager (if not too many listings and few custom fields)
It was built to handle Job Boards, but listings are listings and it’s been used for any kind of directory. The dev who built WooCommerce built this one too and it is maintained by Automattic (the guys behind wordpress.com). I’m not sure how well it integrates with page builder (I never used any crap builder. sorry for my French).
2) GeoDirectory if you have lots of listings and lots of custom fields. It is the only one doing wise use of custom database tables and custom DB queries and it can scale. They say it works with any page builder.
3) Business Directory Plugin if you need something simple, but it will be hard to make it look good if you can’t customize HTML/CSS.
