I rarely make up to £1000 a website and I wanted to know if anybody out there can help me understand how/why some companies will pay tens of thousands? What do those websites have to make them so expensive?

Custom design that may take weeks to perfect, SEO optimization, images that are not stock photos, various features that might be difficult to implement are some reasons that come to mind….
Not sure exactly what companies are included in that price but just brainstorming some possibilities:
* Custom themes/plugins – a custom theme is going to cost more than a site made with elementor, and plugins can cost even more
depending on what they do
* Quality – there is a right and wrong way to make websites, even with tools like WordPress
* Service agreements – the cost might include ongoing maintenance and security services
* Proprietary software integrations – the developers might offer their own software that integrates with WordPress to provide something special, like business insights
For the same reason some cars cost a few grand, while others cost millions.
This is seems like an odd question. Many, many industries and businesses generate the bulk of their leads through their website, educate their customers, close sales online. Businesses don’t need to save a few bucks because someone knows how install a theme, they need a website that meets their business needs.
Great design, creating user journeys, perfecting sales processes, heavy customisation, bespoke development…
It costs serious money.
