Will a duplicate post still rank?

I had a story written in a very small wordpress site that has since stopped publishing but the site is still open.

I submitted it to an active wordpress site who like the article and are happy to go with it.

Will the story still rank on google if its been published before?

I'm willing to even pay for an add to get traffic on it as this is a big portfolio builder for me.
