Hi there! I’m planning to make a post about different YouTube videos (fitness specifically). I need some kind of graphic to break the content up so I was thinking of embedding the videos. I have read this can slow down the page though.
I have also read that you should get a plug-in, but that too many plug-ins can also slow down your site. So I’m confused- any advice or ideas would be helpful!

First of all, the number of plugins is a really bad myth with all due respect to most of those blog authors who haven’t even seen a WP installation let alone used it.
You can have hundreds of plugins or more (and I’ve personally witnessed such installations) and for everything to run as smooth as silk. It all depends on the code quality but also your hosting (remote PC) quality. You know very well that one and a same game will not run the same on 2 different PCs.
When adding videos to posts, it’s always best to embed them externally (so YouTube and similar services) than adding them to your own Media Library. Every script you add (even the external ones that are being pulled due to a video), increases the page load a bit, but I will assume you won’t add 50 videos to a post? Using a plugin for this purpose aka to embed a video is totally unnecessary however.
As for breaking down content, why not use screenshots where necessary and then link to videos?
