Wondering if I made a good choice with WordPress as my main skill

Hi everyone! A little introduction about myself. I’m 27, living in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I’m a Systems of Information Engineer, and I’ve been working with WordPress as a freelancer for almost 9 years now.

I began using WordPress many years ago as a side hustle for building quick websites for some clients I got when I was much younger. Eventually I learned HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, JQuery, etc., and began to develop my own Themes from scratch, and more recently Plugins as well.

I make a decent living (2000-2800 USD per month) working aprox. 4-6 hs. per day, for national and international companies.

Recently I’ve been trying to get a more stable job, with more stable and hopefully higher income, since I’m facing higher expenses (I’m pursuing a Master’s degree in biomedical and biological technology here in Buenos Aires). I was surprised to see that the general offers are lower than what I already earn, working almost twice the hours.

I see my other Engineer friends that develop mostly with React JS or similar, some of them earning twice as much as me, and I wonder if maybe I made a not so wise decision choosing WordPress as my main skill.

Has anyone here had these type of thoughts? I see that [the amount of sites built with WordPress grows every year]), but still the WordPress developer career seems to be stigmatized and not so well recognised. So my thoughts on this are mixed, and I was curious to see what other developers think.
