Woo or shopify on 2024

[ad_1]

Yes. No platform is perfect.

should I use managed woo like wpengine/kinsta or shopify or plesk+ovh/hetner?

1.Seo. I care more the SEO, that’s one reason I prefer woo than shopify. ( yes, shopify seo is not so bad, but seems with many limitations on technique seo like Url structure, subcategories, duplicate content, blog) While with Yoast/rankmath,we could do anything. Is these slight difference important?

\—– What u think of the seo aspect of the two platforms?

2.Cost. This is not so important for me : I know almost everyone will say woo is cheaper. In fact, woo is more expansive if we use a decent hosting like kinsta(plesk+cloud hosting)+wprocket+solidwp.( WP will be cheaper with multiple sites. )And some plugins are more expansive on woo than shopify app market.

3.Dmca and control of the site. Last year received a Dmca takedown from shopify to remove a product, while infringe nothing. I submitted the anti-Dmca and nothing happen then.

Maybe shopify fixed it after and there will be same issue for woo to the host. We are not willing to infringe anything but there will always someone who submit false dmca.

With shopify, shopify control all. With woo, we have a little better control of our shop.

\—–What do you think?——

4. Is it possible for me to use plesk+ovh WITHOUT a developper? I learned a bit about installing plesk, some very basic php settings in plesk. And I know the most important is security and backup: seems we can easily make a aws offsite offsite backup with plesk , and use fail2ban&mod security to harden linux. Then wordfence/solidwp to secure WP. Is that all? (Maybe it’s good if nothing happens, and can do nothing when something occurs) What’s your suggetions?

5. Flexibility. It’s common sense that woo is more flexible than shopify, but for me not. Flexible means plugin&theme conflicts. So maybe I will use shoptimizer and block editor to customize the shop.(Elementor is good but brings many issue too, and build from scratch will produce a theme 1980s, check the shopify official theme, they are modern and functional) I like woodmart/xstore too, but checking the forums, there are all kinds of bugs everyday though they fix them very fast.Bricks maybe too complicated, astra.spectra/generatepress seems lack functions for e-commerce, kadence shop kit maybe better but not try yet.Flatsome semms no support, their documentation is poor and will be limite in their UX builder.

IMO shopify is more flexible for e-commerce, the theme in official site is very fuinctional and modern and a profitable website should be able to work with a developper to custimize the theme.

Which theme do you recommend for woo?

5.The real world. I see that many many big/medium brands use shopify and are migrating from shopify to woo(vice versa also exsit but fewer case). With woo, few showcase on google, the woo official showcase not so interesting…

Do you have some woo example to inspire me?

(Sorry for my poor English)
