You are right – the info/links/version numbers provided are extremely confusing and seem to date back quite some time ago, so I’m not sure why WF is sending out these alerts now.

Yes, they could definitely report more information here, so that users can actually make an informed decision. I’ve already been in touch with them, and they say that they are working on that.
