WordPress.com (business) vs WordPress.org

[ad_1]

Hi everyone, is WordPress.com (business plan) as strong with SEO as WordPress.org?

I am trying to start an affiliate blog and would of course want to optimize my site as best as possible. I understand the main differences between .com and .org (what they actually are, hosting, more freedom, etc.), but what I am not sure on is the SEO part.

From previous posts on this subreddit and general research online, people agree that .org is better for SEO optimization. But if you get the .com Business plan you can still add powerful plugins such as Yoast to up your SEO. So my question is, is the current .com business plan (with Yoast) lacking certain things when it comes to SEO or any other things I would require for a general affiliate blog?

I would probably go with .org, no question asked, but I don’t have much experience with the tech aspect of building websites, so I wanted to see if the .com Business plan could be an equivalent alternative.

  1. Sounds like you are assuming that [wordpress.com]) and [wordpress.org]) offer the same services.

    They don’t.

[Wordpress.com]) offers hosting but .org offers downloads of the wordpress software that you can then self host or set up on a hosting provider of your choice. It has nothing to do with your domain name so you can download the software and then separately buy any name you like (.com, .org, .net, .info, .biz, .ca) and point it to your hosting provider.

  2. If your focus is SEO, then you need fast loading speeds. For fast loading speeds, you should rent a cloud server from someone like Linode, DigitalOcean, or Vultr. Do not use wordpress dot com hosting. You will need to learn how to manage a cloud VPS, or you could use a control panel service to help you. You should also consider a fully managed VPS hosting solution, where the hosting and panel are combined into one.
