WordPress.com or is .org easy-to-use and keep secure on your own or should I go somewhere like square space?

Is WordPress.com a bad choice for making a blog for business?  The website I have in mind is technically not e-commerce because transactions in the store page will link to Amazon, etsy, etc. transactions won’t be done on the website itself.

So I figured WordPress.com would suit my needs as it’s the cheapest i could find without being too obscure or new to have user opinions. I’m really not interested in .org due to me having no interest or knowledge of the inner workings of web development. (And keeping site secure myself)

WordPress.com seems to have an odd reputation online however as it’s almost never mentioned as a recommendation for website builders/hosts (like wix or square space.) And what I do hear about it is that it’s a separate entity from .org leeching of the name (which sounds a bit sketchy) or that it’s restricting unless you get premium.
(I plan to purchase premium)
I don’t see any better options at the moment so I’m unsure what to do. Is WordPress.com as bad as I heard? should I take my money elsewhere?
Are there any other yearly pay sights that are all in one with a better reputation than WordPress.com?
Or is .org easy to maintain for someone who doesn’t know a thing about web development?
