I apologize if my assumptions are incorrect in this post. My understanding is that if you create a WordPress site on WordPress you get unlimited bandwidth. Meaning if your WordPress site gets a lot of unexpected traffic you won’t get billed for excessive bandwidth usage.
What I would like to do is transfer a domain I already own to use with WordPress. I want a WordPress website but I want it to use my own domain name. I don’t want to get billed for excessive bandwidth if my site were to become popular. If I’m using WordPress and using WordPress to manage the domain will I be charged for excessive bandwidth?

So, you don’t want to be charged for excessive bandwidth? That wasn’t very clear in your question.
Bandwidth is generally not a concern for starter sites until you get *substantial* traffic. If you’re using wordpress.com (WP’s official managed hosting) they do not cap bandwidth. If you’re hosting your own instance (wordpress.org) then pick web hosting that offers unlimited bandwidth. Most hosting companies offer this nowadays, with the understanding that 99.9% of their customers will never come close to using enough bandwidth to cause problems.
Again, this only becomes a concern when you reach thousands of visitors a day, and by then you’ll likely move to more robust hosting for your site.
