WordPress folder inside a wordpress folder possible?

[ad_1]

Hi

Is it possible to do the following? I have an SSL certificate that does not work with subdomains. And I do nto want to buy another ssl certificate. So I though to create a seperate wordpress installation using a different database for an ecommerce store. The reason is that woocommerce makes a wordpress website slow. So I do not want that woocommerce plugin installed on the main wordpress install. So I was thinking of make a seperate folder in [www. mydomain. com/] and install a new wordpress in there. Then the store will be using a seperate wordpress installation with a seperate database. And the store than uses the same ssl certificate as www mydomain com . Or am I missing something here?

  1. It’s often possible, but rarely recommended. It could lead to strange issues if the .htaccess isn’t properly set up. It could also lead to complicated situations when making/restoring backups.

I’d personally recommend using a subdomain, added like a regular domain on your hosting. So you just add the full subdomain next to the domain itself:
    “`
    domain.com
    sub.domain.com
    “`
After having created the subdomain, you add the DNS records for it in the DNS management of the main domain. After that it’s exactly like any other domain.
Since the system will treat the subdomain as a separate, normal domain, you should be able to request a free Let’s Encrypt certificate for the subdomain without affecting the certificate you’ve purchased 🙂

  2. Can you upgrade or change it to a wildcard certificate? That should allow all subdomains.
