WordPress menu does not show up

[ad_1]

Hello, I recently migrated my website to a new host and had to do a manual wordpress migration because my previous host did not have cpanel and the new host had a large fee for the migration from a non cpanel host. The migration seemed successful until I tried to log into my admin page and the menu that typically appears on the left hand side did not show up. I opened a ticket with my host and this was the reply:

“There seems to be a problem with the internal WordPress permissions in this installation. \*\*webite\*\*/wp-login.php allows us to log in, but immediately redirects us to http://\*\*website\*\*.com/ — the standard wp-admin URL http://\*\*website\*\*.com/wp-admin displays an error page. We looked into this but were unable to find the cause. We even added a new wp-admin user and confirmed that this user has full administrative privileges, however the wp-admin page still displays an error while logging in as this user. Despite our best efforts, we were unable to identify waht’s causing this, however we can confirm that this is not being caused by anything on our end. We recommend consulting with a qualified WordPress web developer for further assistance with this problem.”

Has anybody experienced this before and know what to do? I’m fairly new to this and don’t know what the next action should be. Thanks

  1. Without being inside the server, it sounds like the permissions on the wp core files got messed up.

If you have SSH access to both boxes, I’d recommend doing a bit more manual migration. Get into the old box, use WP CLI to export the database, use rsync to pull the sql file and the wp-content folder down to your local machine, then rsync them back to the new box, use WP CLI to import the DB back into the install, and you should be good to go, without touching any of the wp core files. Use a fresh install of WP on the new box, instead of the one that sounds like it got messed up.

I stopped using migration plugins a while ago, in favor of this method. 99.9% of the time, i have no issues.
