I am using WordPress for the first time and struggling a bit to set up a newsletter-type site that I thought would be straightforward.
The basic idea is that I have a dozen countries as categories (USA, Canada, China, Japan, etc.). I want to curate an ongoing list of links to policy developments for each country. I’ll write a line of summary for each item that will be linked to an external URL for further reading.
On the home page, I want to arrange sections for each country and display the most recent \~5 links under each one. At the top, I want a menu bar with all the countries and I also want a carousel menu for the top 5 items chosen by me. Except for the carousel, I want the overall site to be mostly text and list-based (not much use for graphical design elements, which seem to dominate most available themes).
I am using the default twenty twenty-three theme. Am I correct that each country should be set up as a page? But then anything I enter is just flat text with hyperlinks that i insert myself. There isn’t a list structure with dates associated with each item. It seems some sort of a list template is needed to facilitate what I’m trying to do. Is there an essential plugin that I need for this type of work? And certain widgets on the homepage to pull items from the lists?
Any advice would be much appreciated. Stylistically, this site is close to what I have in mind (in the sense of sections on the home page showing several recent items under a category): [https://tabbforum.com/])
