WordPress.org plugin search ranking

Does anybody know how [wordpress.org]) plugin search ranking works ? Because it seems like it is more favourable to some old big players, and there is no chance for new plugins to rank higher in search results even if they offer better features than old plugins.

Sometimes even plugin which non related to keyword searched get higher ranking compare to new plugin which is mean to provide exact same service for which search is initiated.

I think WordPress should update some rules for this so that new plugins also get a chance to get some audience from [wordpress.org]). Because old plugins have the great advantage of perfect keywords in the links of their plugin urls, that does not mean that they always ranked higher and were reflected at top.

Has anyone else experienced same ? please guide me on this.

  1. Old plugins are more established and tested than new ones and I don’t see a problem with that.
