WordPress PHP question

[ad_1]

Hi,

Let me preface this with I know nothing about IT.

I have a WordPress website that was created by a friend of a friend. I think he did an amazing work and I was told he knew his stuff. But I never got to ask him what his abilities or skills were. My question is, can someone take full advantage of WordPress just by using CSS and HTML or do they absolutely need to learn PHP?

I’m asking because he left and I need to find someone else, and I heard css and html could be enough, but, since I don’t know anything about IT, I’m asking here.

Thanks.

  1. Depends what are your future plans. You have to understant that wp is like poison for noobs. They never know when its too much plugins, themes and other crap that wp allows you to put on ur web without any coding knowledge. More plugins doesn’t mean better! You ruin use experience page gets slow, layout shifts, running out of resources etc etc = overall disaster. Anyways it’s depends on what you want to do in future. For style and layout customisation yes, css and html is alright but if you will want to make something specific the you need php or you will drown in never ending plugin sea and there will be no easy way out without knowing php.

  2. It kinda depends on what aspects of your site you want to polish or expand on.

To work on the visual look and feel of the site (styling of various features and components, typography, basic templates and layouts) you only really need HTML and CSS, though JS may be needed for fancier interactions and animations.

To change the functionality itself or make more complex templates for pages/posts/custom post types, you’re going to need to know PHP because it is an actual programming language as opposed to the previous two. JavaScript is a programming language as well but unless you’re only messing with the front end, you need PHP.

So, it just comes down to what you want done.

I’d love to talk with you and see if I can be of any help or at least point you in the right direction! I’ve been building custom WP sites for years and can just about handle anything in a WordPress site. WooCommerce is probably my weakest area but even then I have had to work with it before.
