WordPress software NOOB questions

Hey everyone, so I’ve been wanting to learn WordPress (the software from [wordpress.org](https://wordpress.org)) for a long time now and finally started. I have a few noob question hoping you guys can help me clear them out:

1. If I want to create a website, the ONLY cost’s would be paying for the hosting service (let’s say Hostinger), domain name, SSL certificate. Probably all bundled in one price by the host provider?
2. The actual WordPress software that you use to build the website is 100% free? With exceptions of some themes or plugins but most are free?
3. I’m currently running “Local” on my laptop so I can develop (for learning purposes) a wordpress site without having to pay for hosting, domain etc. After I develop it, can it be saved and uploaded to any hosting service?
4. If I purchase a hosting service (Godaddy, Hostgator etc), can I use that SAME account to build other websites without having to pay individual hosting for each one?
5. What are the best hosting service providers you have worked with?
6. If I am working with 3 different hosting service providers (Godaddy, Hostgator, Hostinger), and I create/pay for an account with each, when its time to install WordPress, do I need to create a new wordpress account for each one? Or once I create 1 wordpress account on any of them, that account can be used on the others?

Im a 100% WordPress noob…

Long post! Thanks for reading any help will do!

  1. 1. Yes you are right – software is free, but hosting/domain/SSL certificate (can be bundled together or separate) are not free

    2. WordPress CMS and many of the themes and plugins are free. Some have pro versions with additional features. Depends what you need – basic functionality can be done without paying for any plugin. For more advanced features it is usually required to use some payed plugins or you need to learn how to code 🙂

    3. Depends what software you are using for your local install of WordPress – they maybe have a tool (not always free) to transfer it to a hosting provider. Or you can use some migration plugin to transfer your website to hosting. If it’s free it’s not just one click transfer, you need to Google that for some tutorials.

    4. Each hosting provider has a variety of plans, and most of them provide an option to host multiple domains/websites under one account.

    5. Depends on your budget and performance requirements. You get what you pay for – is usually the case.

    6. You need to create a different account for each hosting provider. You can only transfer your domains/websites from one hosting to another if needed. Each hosting provider will tell you how in their documentation, or through customer service.

Good luck in your learning journey. Just be patient with yourself.

  2. 1: yes. SSL is usually free.
    2: yes.
    3: yes.
4: depends on the host. Some hosts allow 1 site max, some unlimited. Don’t use GoDaddy or Hostgator. Cloudways is 10 times better.
5: cloudways. Most hosts you read about pay for affiliates. Most of them are shared hosts, which is ok for starting out. Cloudways isn’t shared so your site cannot be affected by others.
6: each host would need its own WordPress installation, which you can link to your WordPress.com account. But tbh, I would never use multiple hosts. They all do the same thing: provide storage and an interface to run your site. So pick one and host everything there
