WordPress vs Squarespace for my author-teacher website?

[ad_1]

Hello. I am a fiction author and a creative writing teacher (not in English, so sorry for my mistakes here lol) and I want to create a website to showcase my fiction books and my services (workshops, 1:1 writing mentorship, creative writing ebooks to buy and download*), and I want something that I can easily manage.

I had a Squarespace trial and I found it pretty easy to use, to create the different pages, the design, move around the elements, it was actually very easy and it seems like a nice result. But I'm wondering, is WordPress significantly cheaper than Squarespace? Do you think if I get the hang of it I can find it easy to design it and move things around on my own? Do you think it's worth it to try or is there any advice you can give me?

I'm publishing a book next month and my Instagram is on it but I'm scared of IG suddenly blocking my account or something (which happened to at least 3 collegues of mine in the past months) and then it points to nowhere, so I'm guessing that book is gonna have my IG on it but I much rather my next books to have my website.

Thank you so much.

*The creative writing ebook downloading thing could eventually be done through a third party like Gumroad or something similar to make it easy for me, or just emailing me and I send it to them or something like that.

  1. I understand your concern about IG blocking your account. Yeah SquareSpace is a good platform and WP too, but it is a little bit cheaper. My advice to you is to keep focusing on your writing expertise, and award this task to any web development professional, maybe Me😂

  2. Hi! WordPress is often more affordable and flexible than Squarespace, especially with low-cost hosting options. It’s a great choice for showcasing your books, offering writing mentorships, and selling ebooks. While it may take a little time to learn, I can help you set up a user-friendly, customizable site that you can easily manage on your own. Let me know if you’d like assistance! Best of luck with your book launch!

  3. WordPress is cheaper if you can do it all yourself, but a lot more expensive if you have to hire a developer to do the work for you.

The question you have to ask yourself, is it worth it for you to spend hundreds of hours to learn wordpress well enough to get the same effect as your fill in the blanks Squarespace website? Probably not.
