WordPress web designer using page builder had to create custom taxonomy for 120 post s across four post types and apply it to each individual post so that it can be read by continent views to achieve a filterable property content grid. What is a fair rate for this?

Hello – I recently had to figure out a way to create a custom post grid that was filterable by property type and property location

The original scope of the project was to just create a filterable section

However after months of minimal responses they finally address the fact that they want a filterable function in terms of a dropdown

Basically instead of having a standard filter where people can just select the filter that they want and it would show the custom post types associated with that filter they wanted me to create a custom drop-down filter system where they can drop down select the property and it would bring up the associated properties

In order to do this effectively I had to do some research none of the documentation from the developers or an exact match to their specific situation. Most of the default plugin docs referred to just converting the categories to taxonomies however that would not work in this situation.

The company had 120 properties in the form of posts now I actually did the sorting and I created custom post types for those so that at least from the back end it could be easily organized.

However I had to create a custom taxonomy and then link it to the custom post types and then I had to enable the plugin function to have the taxonomy to be able to be read in the user interface meaning the WordPress dashboard

After that was when you can finally go in to each of the 100 or some properties individually and tag them with the proper taxonomy in order to achieve the drop down style filterable property portfolio gallery that they wanted.

Unfortunately this was not expected and I can’t charge for it because it was originally a fixed price project but how much would this functionality would have cost?

Some of you might say it simple but I’ve never had to do that in my life 🤣

The documentation I got was all junk because it did not specify that you had to go into a specific portion and able to be read by the dashboard and then it did not specify how to link it to each post because all the generic the document was on how to disconnect standard categories to taxonomies which would not have worked in this case because in addition to the

120 post types they also had 50 regular black posts with similar categories and I did not want to jeopardize mixing all those into one thing so the tutorial or the steps outlined by the documentation was not very helpful I ended up taking a bunch of tutorials figure it out my own solution.

The kicker now is I have to go into each individual property thank God for tabs and the mouse cooker wheel and enable the tax on me for the corresponding properties
