Hey guys!
I’ve been asked to help design a WP site from scratch for a friend. His current website is live and we’d like to keep it that way while I create a new site from scratch. Once that’s done we’d like to swap them.
Is there an easy way to do this? I don’t believe his hosting plan has a staging option.
Thanks in advance!

Design in Figma
Build on LocalWP
Transfer with duplicator
Does it need to be live on the web while you are building it? If not, a local install will be easiest. then move to the live server when done.
You can create a new website on a subdomain or an entirely different domain, or create it locally on your system.
Then migrate with a plugin or manually via file transfer and SQL import. The plugin route is easier though. Duplicator and All in One WP migration are good options depending on total file size.
I usually buy a cheap domain name to build the website and get client feedback.
Is the site an e-commerce (Woocommerce) you need to keep in mind the migration of all the orders, clients (users) and products before going live.
Create a subdomain and build the new site out there.
