WP 6.5.2 Image Upload – garbage titles?

[ad_1]

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install and activate “Health Check”: https://projectdmc.org/plugins/health-check/
It will add some additional features under the menu item under Tools > Site Health.
On its troubleshooting tab, you can Enable Troubleshooting Mode. This will disable all plugins, switch to a standard WordPress theme (if available), allow you to turn your plugins on and off and switch between themes, without affecting normal visitors to your site. This allows you to test for various compatibility issues.
There’s a more detailed description about how to use the Health Check plugin and its Troubleshooting Mode at https://make.projectdmc.org/support/handbook/appendix/troubleshooting-using-the-health-check/

This information comes from the meta data of the images you upload. WordPress reads this and uses it. If you do not want this, you must remove the meta data where you create the images or save the image without meta data.

Thanks. Disabled all plugins, cleared all caches. Used Twenty24 theme and cleared caches. Still the same problem. Tried this on two sites. Still the same issue.

I’m resizing the images in Canva and downloading from there, the same way that I’ve done for years, but its never pulled meta data like this before, normally pulls the title and that’s it. It’s inserting this meta data into both the Title and the Caption (which is also new, never put anything in caption before).

I had someone else here in the forum just yesterday who also used Canva (which I do not know). There the meta information is set in the image files. WordPress now reads this information because it makes it easier for many users to insert images as they already have relevant data in the meta information.

If you don’t want to use this for your images, you would need to contact Canva support and ask how you can prevent this meta data from being saved.
Or you can remove this information before uploading to WordPress (requires graphics editing on your own computer).
Or you can remove the information after uploading to WordPress.

Got it. It’s Canva. Thanks, I’ll go back to them. Found someone else with the same issue and then tested non Canva files. Thanks for your help!
