Actually, I am not so sure I want to do recipes as a custom post type with its own WP Discuz comment form.
If I enable recipe as a CPT in WPRM, I don’t see any place to access “recipes” to edit the individual post, add text, etc as if I would if I’d created a new custom post type. How does this work?

If you make the recipe post type public it’s only for displaying the recipe card itself. No other content can be added around it.
The recommended way of using WPRM is to add recipes as part of a parent post. That parent could be a custom post type of its own as well: https://help.bootstrapped.ventures/article/279-recipes-and-their-parent-post
Regarding WP Discuz there is no meta field like that. Our integration is just that we automatically output the stars for you.
