Trying to think through this and Godaddy support chat wasn’t great help.
We currently have a Shopify site running on our top level domain (eg, [example.com](https://example.com)), and I’m wanting to add a subdomain running WorPress on a subdomain ([admin.example.com](https://admin.example.com)) for our company admin stuff. Our domain is registered at Godaddy, which is where I’d like to host the subdomain. Part of my issue is the order of the steps in setting this up.
When I go to create the new A record at Godaddy it asks for an IP address to point at, which I don’t have; do I simply point it at our current IP address for the time being, then change it once the subdomain has been created?
I won’t have Cpnael @ Godaddy until I add hosting, so can I apply it to a subdomain, or is it going to create the new site at our top level domain (which we don’t want)?
I’m familiar with Cpanel, but the Shopify wrinkle and Godaddy’s clunky interface has be spooked, and we can’t afford for our current company website (ecomm) to go down and lose sales.

You create your WordPress site on a server and point the subdomain to it – that’s it
Would you pay $100 for all these problems to go away?
Great – then buy a domain [adminportal-example.com])
and build your site there. That $100 makes your problems go away for 10 years!
