WPBakery plugin is suddenly causing an issue with the ability to add text to product listings on a site which has used the plugin for years…

I've been using WPBakery for my friend's site for around ten years or so and recently we began experiencing an issue where when adding a new product, or editing an existing product, text can't be added to the product description box and you also can't add media of any kind (which the button for this is within the product description box). If I look at her previously posted products there's nothing showing up in those boxes as well but all of the text and media are still properly displaying like they should.

All of her plugins are up to date and this problem seems to have began around a week ago but the WPBakery plugin hasn't been updated in over a month. As soon as the plugin is deactivated the issue goes away but then some of the pages on the site no longer display properly. I'm trying to understand what's happening here. My first thought was that WPBakery is somehow interacting with a plugin that was updated more recently but I've gone through all of the plugins and none of them have been updated in less than a month and the problem first appeared about a week ago.

  1. Have you tried rolling back to an older version of WP Bakery? It sounds like a conflict with another plug-in or the theme.

  2. There was this weird issue with Bakery I had a long time ago that sounds somewhat familiar.
I had a website link added in one of the fields.
A simple link that was causing the plugin to fail. It had something to do with the words in the domain name, nothing to do with the structure or validity of the link.

Best thing for you to do is try and split your code/content.

Remove 50% of the content from the top, see if it fixed it.

Revert and remove 50% of the content from the bottom, see if it fixed it.

If by any chance one of the two fixes your issue, then you might be able to track down what section of the code causes the problem. You’d then have to split the 50% causing the issue in another half and repeat the process.
