WPEngine caching nightmare.

[ad_1]

I’ve now had two client websites so severely impacted by WPEngine’s hosting that I’ve had to move them off completely, and when we did, the issue was immediately resolved. Both problems point to their proprietary caching, which is probably tied into their MU caching plugin.

First client was a website we’ve had on their platform for years, and all of a sudden our saved templates + layouts would erase everyday. This is important as the templates would be used for formatting dynamic content, and the layout library in our particular theme is useful for quickly building custom pages. Over 120+ of our saved layouts just gone, every day, at the same exact time (luckily their backups are pretty great though).

Second client runs an ecommerce shop, customers were going to checkout and seeing other customers’ data populating in the checkout fields. Total nightmare. Escalated to WPEngine senior staff, added caching rules, flushed, etc. Again, the issue is related to their MU cache plugin that you can’t remove (otherwise it regenerates itself) so the only solution was to move away from their hosting. As soon as we got on SiteGround, issue resolved itself.

I’m not sure what to make of this. I’m a WPEngine partner and also use their Growth Suite, but I’m getting a little irked considering how much money we pay to use their platform. $200 per site sometimes.

  1. I had the exact same type of problems when I had WP Engine years ago. Their support was slow, cocky, and not helpful. Moving away from them was the best thing I ever did for my business.
